week one of east coast tour

What up yall. It's bin a little over a week now since we've bin on the road. So far it has bin very exciting. Hung out with good people and made new friends. Louisiana, Georgia, North Carolina, and Virginia were amazing. Every show we played, we've gotten good feedback. Loading in and out of small venues/co-ops, heaving 100lbs speakers cabs through a flight of stares and cracked sidewalks. We couldn't be any more happier.
Flinging download cards, stickers, posters; spamming motherfuckers like we some bible beaters spreading the good word to door to door.. We smile and move on to our next targets. Devouring bowls of instant oatmeal & Ramon noodles with a re-filled water bottle from the tab. That's what bin up for over a week.

Right now; we're on our way to Brooklyn, NY. Never bin to NY so we're prepared for shitty parking and horrible, horrible traffic.

by the way; I'll post up photos after the tour.

California + West TX snow storm

The California trip was a success. We had a bumpy ride for shows, but made connections & met great people. Talked business with folks in high, high places, got to see a part of American that we never got to see, spot a tumble weed on the road. It was great.

We're looking forward for more Gigs in California and Along the way this coming April, but the main idea of this blog entry is we got caught in a snow storm in West TX.
Never in our lives seen as much snow we've witness down in West TX. Enlightening, but the most uncomfortable and dangerous thing we've done since a band. We like adventures, but damn! WE WERE NOT EXPECTING THIS!!! AND @ 2AM IN THE FUCKING MORNING!!!

--also here's the videos of us performing in Denton, TX and Cali. (the Denton show, the camera got cut off too early!)

Space City Rock review on Self-Titled EP

Female Demand

Of the four tracks on Female Demand's self-titled EP, the one that hits the hardest is the opener, "Sweet Nothing" -- it starts off with almost wah-wah-sounding bass and stuttering, barely-restrained drums, then stomps its way into two minutes and change of driving, thundering, bass-and-drums instrumental rawk, leaning heavily towards the sludgy, garage-y side of things. The sound swings between noisy, punkish blues, stoner-esque metal, and an almost prog-funky vibe, if you can believe it, and the result is something like a loose, angry-drunk, alternate-universe version of Dub Trio, or maybe Jucifer rocking a dance party without the vocals. Put it all together, and it's a hell of a ride, especially for a two-man outfit.

The band slows things down somewhat for "I Thought I Told You...," and on first listen my heart sank, figuring the FD duo had done the inevitable and, y'know, toned things down for the record. Happily, they step back in after the mid-tempo intro, kicking and punching their way through the remainder of the track while riding a sing-song-y riff -- it feels weird to say that, I know, about a vocal-less instrumental, but Bradley Muñoz's bass at one point sound like it's taunting the listener, daring 'em to make something of it. "Skies Are Falling" is even more fuzzed-out and crunchy-sounding (a good thing, in my book), with drummer Jonathan Perez hammering away at his drums like he's trying to crack the ground below his kit wide, wide open. For final track "Like Catching Butterflies," the duo delve a bit deeper into footpedals-and-laptops territory, letting Perez manipulate stretch his bass sound out to infinity and then launch it into space.

If there's a quibble to be made about this, it's that I honestly wanted to hear it louder -- messier, more raw, more overdriven, so loud the speakers start to crackle. The bass sounded nicely grimy, but I wanted the drums right down in the muck with it, dirtied up and boomy, like, say, the way the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion's Russell Simins sounds on "Sweat." Muñoz and Perez pull it off on "Sweet Nothing," but not really on any of the other tracks on the EP.
The kind of noise Female Demand makes really shouldn't be cleaned up, not one bit; it should make you feel like the band's playing right on either side of your head. (And yes, I did turn the damn thing up 'til my ears nearly bled.) 'Til that happens, this is no replacement for seeing the band explode live on stage...but hey, it's a damn good start.

Thanks SPACE CITY ROCK!!! :O

What are the odds!? :O

How it goes is, I got a email from this guy in Japan. He asked if we do international shipments. I replyed, "HELL YEAH WE SHIP TO JAPAN!" ... so i changed my settings on the Female Demand's big cartel to Domestic and International shipping. New Years Eve + EP RELEASE

Hello all!

We are so excited to announce that we are gearing up to release our 12" clear EP that we've been slaving over for the past 6 months. This EP encompasses 4 new songs that evoke emotion and movement. With the help of our producer Manny Nieto (HEALTH, Circle Jerks, The Breeders) we've been able to really make a record with the nice, smooth tone of an all analog recording set up. We also comissioned artist Sonny Kay (The Mars Volta, Locusts, RX Bandits) to forge the art and layout for this record. And with this, we have brought our 'EP' that we will release on New Years Eve.

With that out of the way, we can now give you all the details about the release party! The party will be held at Mango's 403 Westheimer, Houston, tx. There will an amazing line-up that evening which includes our great friends Grandfather Child, The Manichean, Sideshow Tramps, B L A C K I E, Robert Ellis and Hollywood Floss. The show is $10 which makes it a great night out for New Years Eve. Our EP will be made available soon after the clock has struke midnight. The EP itself is $12 but includes a free digital download of the record. There are only 500 copies of this 12" clear vinyl record. NO MORE WILL BE PRINTED LIKE THIS!!!!!
So be the coolest kid in town with your very own Female Demand clear 12" vinyl!!!!!

DRAGON'S DEN
New Orleans, Louisiana

9/15/09

Performed for the first time ever in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Our impression of Louisiana was... Cajun goodness.
Sadly we didn't eat any Cajun food, but our performance at the Dragon's Den was phenomenal!
Loud? Yes it was!! :)
more than 40 people were there!
Fuck yeah! we're hitting up Louisiana again very soon.
We'll like to thank Sean from Caddywhompus for letting us stay at his place.

Summerfest. Time to invade!

FPH Summerfest.

heard about it? FPH has bin advertising this event like there is no tomorrow. On a local news channel, cable television, offline and online promotion. These guys are taking this seriously. Shit- you know I would if I were them.
They got national acts performing, Broken Social Scene, Of Montreal, Explosions in the Sky, The Sword, The Octopus Project, and so on and so forth. .
.

but any who, I'm stoked and Jonathan is stoked about this upcoming weekend.
I just got done with a batch of Demos ready to feed the masses. Each and every one of them are unique & have a few surprises. (SOME OF THEM!) I've worked on it all day; they stand out.
Very neo-expressionism? (i just learned about that word last night), but very amateur. Thanks to my brother for showing me a few tricks, I feel that the CDs deserve to be in everyones CD players, cars, and computer.

See you @ summerfest!

Re-recording the demo Pt. 1

6/11/09
Day 1: Saturday
It 2pm-ish Afternoon. . . Austin Smith, a good friend we've met @ a show not to long ago decided he want to record us. We we're happy that he asked because we had the idea to re-record the Demo and actually take our sweet, sweet, time with it.
Austin dragged his recording equipment into our small practice space. Cables covered the floor and microphones stood high like skyscrapers; it was time to record.
Jonathan Perez covered the drum tracks, a very long tidiest process. Almost everything had to be centimeter to perfection.
After a few breaks, the drum tracks was complete...

6/12/09

Day 2: Sunday
Austin Smith brought over a friend of his; Cristal Flores to witness the recording session.
It was my turn to record. (Bradley Muñoz) Thankfully Cristal started documenting the event and gave me the idea to video record. Knobs turned and tracks stacks as I slowly complete “Skies are falling.”
Cristal left the room to run errands and it was just us three to finish the bass tracks. (Jon, Austin, Brad.)
The day came a end and we only completed 2 tracks....

6/19/09

Day 3: Sunday
Yesterday we were suppose to finish up the bass tracks, but Austin needed to take care some personal business. The session only lasted a couple of hours. I burned through all the bass tracks and then some. Now it's complete! . . . Time now for mixing and mastering at SugarHill Studio!

Stay tuned!!
