New Years Eve + EP RELEASE

Hello all!

We are so excited to announce that we are gearing up to release our 12" clear EP that we've been slaving over for the past 6 months. This EP encompasses 4 new songs that evoke emotion and movement. With the help of our producer Manny Nieto (HEALTH, Circle Jerks, The Breeders) we've been able to really make a record with the nice, smooth tone of an all analog recording set up. We also comissioned artist Sonny Kay (The Mars Volta, Locusts, RX Bandits) to forge the art and layout for this record. And with this, we have brought our 'EP' that we will release on New Years Eve.

With that out of the way, we can now give you all the details about the release party! The party will be held at Mango's 403 Westheimer, Houston, tx. There will an amazing line-up that evening which includes our great friends Grandfather Child, The Manichean, Sideshow Tramps, B L A C K I E, Robert Ellis and Hollywood Floss. The show is $10 which makes it a great night out for New Years Eve. Our EP will be made available soon after the clock has struke midnight. The EP itself is $12 but includes a free digital download of the record. There are only 500 copies of this 12" clear vinyl record. NO MORE WILL BE PRINTED LIKE THIS!!!!!
So be the coolest kid in town with your very own Female Demand clear 12" vinyl!!!!!

We can't wait to see you at the show!

Spread Love

interview / EP review from Free Press Houston

Interview : Female Demand
posted by Free Press Houston @ 10:31 AM

By Omar Afra

Bass and drum duo Female Demand is fresh on the heels of a new album which they release New Year’s Eve and a string of clutch shows including another killer performance at Westheimer Block Party. The band has finally captured their gritty Lightning Bolt meets Zep sound by spending the time and treasure to record their songs at Sugar Hill. They are not very smart, charismatic, or good looking but they were kind enough to answer these questions.

In the right context, you guys may be one of the best live bands in Houston. Is it hard to play these monumental earth-shattering shows and next play to 6 mildly interested people?

Not really. We play music because we love it. Whether it's 30 people in the crowd or 4, we still play our best and kinda think of that show as a band rehearsal haha.

Earliest childhood musical memory?

Jon-being a little baby and having a little toy saxophone that blew bubbles. lol

Tell us about the new album. Why did you choose to go to Sugar Hill instead of recording the way you did your last ep? You know, the one where your super loud-shitty snare sounds like dropping nickels into an RC Cola.

Well we opted to record this particular EP at sugarhill because it was cheap. A good friend of ours introduced to one of the engineers there and he just let us pretty much have the studio for a whole night. It was definatly a better experience then when we recorded the first demo. And the drums do sound a whole more accessable. lol

Who do you fuck anyway?

Haha, we don't kiss and tell. But, if we had to be literal here, then I'd say we both always go with the ladies.

Female Demand. What does that mean? Are you qualified to explain what females demand?

Funny you ask. I don't think that we are qualified to explain what females demand. BUT! I can explain the origins of the name. It's the title of a Prefuse 73 song and I just thought that it sounded really funny when you said it out loud. It's kind of suggestive but at the same time it sounds like you're saying female to man or female the man. And I liked that it had that to it. That funny play on words...

Bradley has a bonafide legion of bass pedals he manipulates into sonic retardation. How often do you ever tell him " Hey just go with a clean tone?

Not often to be honest. Each pedal has it's specific use and meaning and Bradley really tries hard to not pack on a shit tone of pedals. If there was an easier way of carrying gear then we'd have a shit tone of stuff, but it just ain't like that.
Bradley-And plus, we love loud things, and what better way to make loud noises then with a Ampeg 6x10 and a Fender Bassman 300 and a bunch of pedals! haha

Fill in the blanks: Houston is the musical belly button of the cosmos because________?

Because we're hot....

DRAGON'S DEN
New Orleans, Louisiana

9/15/09

Performed for the first time ever in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Our impression of Louisiana was... Cajun goodness.
Sadly we didn't eat any Cajun food, but our performance at the Dragon's Den was phenomenal!
Loud? Yes it was!! :)
more than 40 people were there!
Fuck yeah! we're hitting up Louisiana again very soon.
We'll like to thank Sean from Caddywhompus for letting us stay at his place.

Summerfest. Time to invade!

FPH Summerfest.

heard about it? FPH has bin advertising this event like there is no tomorrow. On a local news channel, cable television, offline and online promotion. These guys are taking this seriously. Shit- you know I would if I were them.
They got national acts performing, Broken Social Scene, Of Montreal, Explosions in the Sky, The Sword, The Octopus Project, and so on and so forth. .
.

but any who, I'm stoked and Jonathan is stoked about this upcoming weekend.
I just got done with a batch of Demos ready to feed the masses. Each and every one of them are unique & have a few surprises. (SOME OF THEM!) I've worked on it all day; they stand out.
Very neo-expressionism? (i just learned about that word last night), but very amateur. Thanks to my brother for showing me a few tricks, I feel that the CDs deserve to be in everyones CD players, cars, and computer.

See you @ summerfest!

Re-recording the demo Pt. 1

6/11/09
Day 1: Saturday
It 2pm-ish Afternoon. . . Austin Smith, a good friend we've met @ a show not to long ago decided he want to record us. We we're happy that he asked because we had the idea to re-record the Demo and actually take our sweet, sweet, time with it.
Austin dragged his recording equipment into our small practice space. Cables covered the floor and microphones stood high like skyscrapers; it was time to record.
Jonathan Perez covered the drum tracks, a very long tidiest process. Almost everything had to be centimeter to perfection.
After a few breaks, the drum tracks was complete...

6/12/09

Day 2: Sunday
Austin Smith brought over a friend of his; Cristal Flores to witness the recording session.
It was my turn to record. (Bradley Muñoz) Thankfully Cristal started documenting the event and gave me the idea to video record. Knobs turned and tracks stacks as I slowly complete “Skies are falling.”
Cristal left the room to run errands and it was just us three to finish the bass tracks. (Jon, Austin, Brad.)
The day came a end and we only completed 2 tracks....

6/19/09

Day 3: Sunday
Yesterday we were suppose to finish up the bass tracks, but Austin needed to take care some personal business. The session only lasted a couple of hours. I burned through all the bass tracks and then some. Now it's complete! . . . Time now for mixing and mastering at SugarHill Studio!

Stay tuned!!

New things, new ideas...

Hello Female Demand Readers. :)
Just to let you guys know, I'm in the process of editing out our trip to Austin, TX last Friday.
I had the privilege to video record driving on the highway, sound checking, performing, and giving our last remarks.. You will see more of these small video entries in the upcoming summer and year! Hopefully I could keep this new trend alive and well!! >_< ha-ha

Female Demand has a lot of tricks up it's sleeves. Don't really want to give it all away, but I can say this. Our new material that we're working on is going to be good. lol :>

Any who, our performance went swell in Austin. Sucks that we had to open up, but what could you do? Thankfully Jonathan's friend, Ana gave us a place to stay. We couldn't thank her enough for being so generous! (thank you Ana!)

Our SXSW 09 experience & show @ Caroline Collective

Our SXSW experience was surprisingly good. Had a rough, rough start, but smooth out everything. . . sorta. We left Houston on Tuesday morning around 9:30am. We we're suppose to leave around 7:30 - 8am, but our van ran into some problems. The rear-left tire had a nail in it & the van's engine needed motor oil. My father (Bradley's) practically did all the work... Raced to the Auto shop for motor oil and changed out the tire. After all that was cleared, we speeded to Austin.

Jonathan was checking on his iphone to see what time we perform @ CO-LAB on Allen st. "11:30am," it said. I read on the internet that Female Demand was suppose to perform @ 12:15pm. We didn't took any chances so we raced to Austin, TX. Exactily we got to CO-LAB @ 11:30am. . . (i was busting 90mph on the highway)

Jonathan asked the promoter what time Female Demand was suppose to play. "12:15"

Until 12:15pm showed it's face, the fire marshalls showed up! The Fire Marshalls were asking for a sound permit and a event permit. The promoter had it, but mis placed it somewhere so our timeslot was pushed back . . . We said bye and left. For the rest of the day we rode our bikes.

Wedneday rolled by and we needed to perform @ Cherrywood Coffeehouse.
Now with this gig, it went a lot better then the CO-LAB since it didn't got pushed back, but we ran into some technical dificulties. Jonathan's kick pedal busted at the best time in SXSW, the bitch shitted a brick. Luckaly the other bands let him used there kick pedal, but it was kinda tricky for him since the damn thing kept sliding away. He was pissed.

Thursday, regular day for us. Nothing but networking, bike riding, and lots of beers. Same goes for Friday. Now it's Saturday night, the last night for SXSW. We jus recently got added to the bill with "The Mathletes" @ some bar near E35rd st. or something like that. 10:30pm we're performing-we're excited. Other than that, we might performing @ a bridge party with B L A C K I E and American Sharks. Hopefully everything goes acording to plan. :)

p.s. We're performing @ the Caroline Collective with Caddywhompus, Japanther, Fat Tony, Theart, Muhammid Ali, & My name is John Michale. Cover-$7 ALL AGES Doors-noon
